The statement of “Social-Democrats for Development of Georgia”

The statement of “Social-Democrats for Development of Georgia”

On the August 20th, the statement by the vice-minister of foreign affairs Nino Kalandadze, was announced in the media stating that “the technical aspects of Azerbeidjanian-Georgian confederational relationship have already been made public and that the rest of it is a matter of diplomatic negotiations”
It is completely unclear what is meant under technical aspects. One can have such impression that the government has made a decisions on the level of political principles and the ministry of foreign affairs is working towards its implementation.
Such irresponsible attitude, toward such a fundamental issue, as whether one day Georgians might find themselves citizens of a different country, is unprecedented even for the practices of Georgia’s current government.
Apparently, this government has no idea what it means for an independent state to become a member of a confederation. Or may they think that it’s not a business of Georgians’, which country they will be living in.
We want to stress that such irresponsible actions might dramatically worsen the situation in this already troubles and unstable part of the world.
Considering the critical importance of this issue, we demand from the ministry of foreign affairs to make an official statement, and shed light on the actions and intents that the government has in this direction.
We call upon all citizens of Georgia to be alert, suddenly not to find themselves being citizens of a different country.
